Message In A Bottle WIP by Emberblue Message In A Bottle WIP by Emberblue
This is an artwork concept for a married couples retreat for a Christian church. Its not finished yet. I've been staring at it for too long and wanted to get some ideas on how to improve it. :aww:

The theme is "Message In A Bottle" and it is going to be held at a resort on a tropical island. The purpose of the retreat is to help married couples work on their marriages from a Biblical standpoint, and to help encourage their relationships with Jesus. One of the activities they will do is write something on a parchment note (like confessed sins, prayers to God for their marriage, etc.) and put them in a bottle and cast them into the ocean.

The "logo" at the top will end up being a little smaller than it is now. And I've left room for text that will contain the retreat info. Mostly I'm just trying to get that floating island to look good. This is a new venture for me, so if you have any suggestions please let me know! Thanks!

I like the idea and what you have done so far. Good idea. I would put something in the water. Maybe some sharks that have some tattoo's that say "divorce", "sin", and/or "adultery". So the floating island would be the refuge of them working on their marriage.

You can do alot with any version of photoshop. I didn't use any fancy tools for this, just the standard "timeless" photoshop stuff. :)

Something that caught my eye, the word "Message" doesn't look like it's sitting on anything--it's as if it's floating.

And the Floating "island" looks a little off by not having much depth. You could probably do that pretty easy with the burn tool. The bottom needs to have some shadows, because, well, it's below the top.

Otherwise, I love the concept.

Hi E.
Beautiful as always.
Here are my little wee thoughts...

When I have been to tropical islands, they have been breezy, misty and very moist. Lots of water. You have that here (waterfalls-ocean)... the one thing that I actually looked for automatically, by knee jerk reaction, but you didn't have it, was drips (not the waterfall) but lots of draining drips- as if this island came up out of the water- from the bottom of the island. Then bouncing off of the ocean below.
Oh- and... I thought if would look amazing too, with another hue of a sunset only a bit on the island below...(again, I know- but it's the tropics man!)

The other concept that I thought may be kind of cool. To put the word "Message" INSIDE the bottle on the parchment paper, wrinkled, torn, and maybe a bit burned on the edges?

Just some thoughts. But, this? Lady- you got skillz. :highfive:

Thanks for the suggestions! I can always count on you to suggest sunset colors ;p lol! That probably would make it feel much more tropical though.

You are way too nice.

I concur with everyone else about adding some dimension to the floating island. Could you add some clouds scattered around it? Just misty little ones would be nice, I think, to add to the feeling that it is in fact in the sky. Right now it looks sort of like it's just in front of the sky, so some clouds would attach the two nicely, I think. :)

Great job, though! :D

I love it!! Great concept and feel!
It did remind me of a poster for "stay green go red" though.
(you might want to Google it)

There are three things that I noticed.

1. As mentioned by others, the left end of the island needs some depth. (the pointy bit looks cut out)

2. To give more depth to the bottom of tge floating island, maybe shadows and light need added. (on rocks and sky)

3. The poster as a whole doesn't get the marriage bit across, I wonder if rings or something relating to marriage can be added?

As a whole, I know I can never make a price like this and it is totally amazing! I verymuch lookforward to the completed poster!

Haha! You are totally right! I've seen that image before and that is where some of my inspiration came from. It's not the first time "floating islands" have been done, but it is a really interesting idea.

Thanks so much for your input and ideas. I really appreciate it.

I met a man on the train from Phoenix to Chicago who did something like that ... his wife passed away tho'... :(

I agree with ArtNGame, the bottom of the floating island needs something... more shadows/shading?

...on the other hand, the island itself and the whole image sort of has that "cut out" feel to it, so maybe you DON'T want to add shading.

I like the idea and it looks great. Though the floating island looks good, it doesn't look as 3 dimensional at the bottom. Maybe add more cliffs/rock behind it, especially on the left and right? And since theres a waterfall going off the island, shouldn't it be hitting the ocean?

I still like how it looks overall though.

I agree, the bottom of the island looks funny. I didn't think of adding more rocks behind it to give it dimension. I'll give that a try, thanks for the input!
